Industry: E-Commerce

Our Role: SEO Strategy and Implementation

Featuring: Data-Driven Keyword Optimization

Disclaimer: The industry discussed in this case study is illustrative and not the actual client’s industry. This example has been generalized to protect our client’s competitive SEO advantage.

The Situation

An emerging online home decor boutique struggled to gain visibility in a saturated market. The store featured a wide range of decor items, each characterized by distinctive styles, materials, and intended room uses, but these unique traits were not being leveraged to attract search traffic.

Their market page had the permanent title “Home Decor Market.” So, despite their wide variety of wares, they were competing only for that search term.

Once they landed on the page, visitors could filter products by:

  1. Material (wood, steel, etc)
  2. Room (kitchen, bathroom, etc)
  3. Style (modern, rustic, etc)

The Challenge

The online home decor market is highly competitive, with many retailers competing for the attention of a diverse audience. Our client needed a way to stand out by effectively targeting niche segments within the broader market. The goal was to attract more targeted traffic and increase conversions through precise, search-optimized content.

Programmatic SEO Explained

Less technical explanation: Imagine Zillow. Zillow’s database has home listings from across the world. But, you can google “homes in Kansas City” and see a specific Zillow page for just that city. It creates a shortcut and signals to google that this is a specific search people are making.

More technical explanation: Programmatic SEO is the practice of creating unique web pages based on data, making it possible to target a vast array of long-tail keywords efficiently. This strategy involves creating numerous SEO-friendly pages, each tailored to specific search queries. It is particularly effective for e-commerce businesses with extensive inventories, enabling them to capture highly specific traffic for various product characteristics.

The Process

Step 1: Keyword Research

We started with an exhaustive analysis of long-tail keywords that potential customers might use when searching for specific types of home decor. Tech Titan reviewed both keyword difficulty (aiming for less than 20), and high search volume (at least a hundred searches per month). This research focused on combining product attributes like style, material, and room type to form highly specific search terms.

Step 2: Building a Tool for Dynamic Page Creation

Using the client’s existing product data & categories, we updated their site to automatically generate web pages for each unique combination of style, material, and room. For example, “modern metal wall decor for living room” or “rustic wooden table decor for kitchens.”

The client was also able to provide unique copy to include on each page.

Step 3: Implementation

Each generated page was meticulously optimized for SEO, with custom meta titles, descriptions, and user-friendly URLs that mirrored the targeted long-tail keywords. Tech Titan crafted content on these pages to not only rank well but also to engage users by providing decorating inspiration related to the specific style and room. Over 20 unique pages were created and managed from 1 template.

Note: because the client’s website was built with custom code, the implementation of this solution was trivial. Website building platforms may or may not be able to do actual programmatic seo.

The Results

The implementation of this targeted, data-driven content strategy led to impressive results:

  • Keyword Rankings: The boutique’s website began ranking in searches for over 150 new long-tail keywords, all of which were previously untapped. The client’s Domain Authority also rose by several points.
  • Visibility and Traffic: There was a dramatic increase in daily impressions and organic clicks, with daily site views jumping from 2 to 180+, and clicks surging by up to 5x.
  • Conversion: Enhanced user engagement and targeted traffic resulted in the client obtaining their first customers from organic traffic.

Conclusion

This case study highlights the effectiveness of leveraging detailed product attributes to gain traction off specific searches. Our client’s success underscores the importance of a well-thought-out SEO strategy that aligns with consumer search behaviors and preferences.
